That’s all it takes for me to remove the oil pan now. The first time last year took place over a few days. The blue seal you see towards the rear of the block in the above picture got pinched by the oil pan during my repair last winter. It was only made apparent because the bellhousing is off.

Better safe than sorry, no matter how small the damage is.

Its amazing how much of doing a job, is figuring out how to do the job. Once you know, it flies.

so, when i did the alternator on my IS250, i was following IS350 instructions. and it was all the same.

EXCEPT

on the back there is a 12 mm nut on the 350 that needs to be undone. On the 250, its a 10mm

and OFC you cant see it because its under the head of the V6, and behind at alternator, between the PS box and the fender.

FOUR. GOD DAM. FREAKING. HOURS. to figure out it was the wrong size.

the WORST was that right above it there was a post that i THOUGHT I kept getting the socket on (instead of the bolt) hence why it wasnt turning)

it was only until a friend swung by and suggested the smaller socket did I try it. I would have been there for days

Oh, the ghost bolt will really throw you off!

Its amazing what a fresh perspective can do to help. Also sometimes just taking a break from the job and getting something to eat/drink can really help.

Back when I had the RallyMetro, one of the lower control arm bolts had backed it's way out during an event, and it had gacked up the threads. I was drilling and tapping it for a slightly bigger bolt, and the tap got stuck. I couldn't get it in more or back it out, no matter what I did. Then my wife called me in for lunch. After a sammich and some water, I went back to get that tap out. I laid down on the garage floor, literally just touched the tap ... And it fell out.

I had a ‘96 Ram Van that needed upper engine work. The task of removing 14 bolts to take all the pulleys and pulley cover off took two days the first time, then took 3 hours the next time.

That’s a great example.  I think we’ve all been there with ones job or another.
